Week 4: Old-fashioned sweet shortcrust pastry

I used this pastry recipe for the base of some lemon meringue tarts over the weekend. The recipe consists of simple ingredients and is very easy to follow, even if you’ve never made pastry from scratch before.

Meringues seem to be hit and miss with me... -_- Maybe it's the carton egg whites that I get but I don't like using non-pasturized version right out of the shell.

Oh my goodness, risotto is so satisfying on a dreary winter day. I'll be keeping this recipe in my books for sure.

I thought this recipe was kind of bland... maybe it would have been better with home made chicken stock instead of the cubes.


Food Revolution Challenge: Week 1

Working a full time job often results in relying on take-out, frozen or "instant" meals. I know this well as my shelves are usually stocked with a never ending supply of canned soups, instant ramen and many other food items that have expiry dates set in a far distant future.

With this in mind, my workplace recently started up an internal Food Revolution Challenge à la Jamie Oliver. Each week, we've been challenged to cook one of his recipes, take a photo to prove it, and for each dish we get entered towards a prize. Cool beans.

My entry for week 1: Bolognese Sauce with Pasta

This recipe worked out great. It takes some time to prep but the end result is totally worth it.
